Fallout power armor! This is probably one of the coolest prop projects I've worked on! This was in conjunction with "The Specialists", a company in the building I have my shop in that does props for tv and movies.
I was in charge of a team that assembled 2 power armors for the new Fallout show. They supplied us with fiberglass shells that needed to be cleaned up and assembled into a wearable power armor that allowed the stunt men to walk around and move there arms and limbs. We also designed a 3d printed mechanical hand that allowed the wearers to move the fingers with rings and springs.
We had to take the shells and figure out how they could be comfortably worn and connected to articulate. The body is part of a backpack. The wearer was on stilts, hidden inside the legs. There were also numerous hoses, and mechanical details that had to be sourced or fabricated, and rubber parts that were cast by the mold making department. All the parts needed to be painted and weathered.
These suits were used in the show along with other suits that they acquired/ had made. I think they had 4 or 5 suits for the show. I've been enjoying watching the show and pausing to try and figure out which suits are the ones we crafted.
I made all the leather holsters and bandolier for Walton Goggins ghoul character.
This was a really fun project, leather working is a lot faster than making plate armour! I made multiple sets for stunt doubles. It was great to finally see it as a prominent part of the ghouls costume.
